The Purple Savannah

This is probably one of the strangest places you have ever been in. Surrounded by tall, pale green and yellow grasses, that which you'd expect to see growing in the dry, dusty savannah, you walk for a long time in the paw tracks along an old hunting trail. The dust kicks up under your shoes, your skin biting and itching from the dust rising through the air and coating your clothes with a fine layer. This is a strange savannah in that atop the grasses, instead of plain yellow seed heads or the usual homely flowers of the grass family, there are brilliantly purple blooms. They grow on thick stems that cluster in the center of the dry tufts of grass, swaying in undulating waves of color in the hot wind that constantly blows over this flat land. Their pollen adds further dryness to the air, so that your eyes water and your mouth is parched. You hope this trail leads somewhere hospitable -- a water hole, shelter from this dry hot wind, a relief from the endless expanse of purple and pale yellow and the cerulean sky above.

Just as this thought has passed through your mind, you hear the nearby patting of soft-soled feet -- the quick feet of a silent predator. You whirl and look nervously into the grasses to either side of the trail. There is silence, and warily you continue on. The pattering is heard again, and this time you glimpse the fleeting image of a lean body running swiftly through the flickering screens of grass. There is a distant howling sound, rising on the wind, and the sun begins to ride slowly to the west. Feeling increasingly nervous, you turn to walk on again. And there, standing in the trail in front of you is a small, cat-like animal. Its lean, lanky form is posed for flight, its black eyes watching you closely.

You almost laugh aloud. This supposed predator that you thought would be so dangerous is pink colored. You crack a grin despite yourself.

"What are you laughing at?!" The animal seems to have noticed your expression.

"Uh ..."

"So I'm pink! Sue me! You don't think I deal with this kind of thing EVERY DAY?! HUH?!"

"Uhhhhh...."

He grumbles. "Well come on and meet the pack :P We don't have all day." He turns and stalks off.
